For builders and building contractors

Get your building firm recommended by AI

An extension, a loft conversion, a new garden wall: these are big decisions, and some homeowners now start by asking an AI assistant which local builders to talk to. The answer usually names only a few firms. Here is what tends to decide whether yours is one of them, and what you can check yourself this week.

The check is free. Paid help has fixed prices: the full audit is £395 + VAT, one-off (pilot £195 + VAT for our first 5 clients). See all prices.

Questions customers ask AI

Typical examples of what people type or say to an AI assistant when they need a builder:

  • “Who can build a single-storey kitchen extension in [your town]?”
  • “Can you recommend a builder near me who does loft conversions?”
  • “Which builders in [your town] are TrustMark registered?”
  • “Who can rebuild a crumbling garden wall near me?”

What AI assistants tend to look at

  • Your Google Business Profile: a building main category, each type of job you really take on (extensions, loft conversions, renovations, groundwork, small repairs) listed in plain words, and the towns and villages you cover.
  • A page on your website for each main type of project, with photos of your own finished work and a short note of where it was. Big jobs are often bought on proof, and specific detail gives AI assistants something accurate to say.
  • How you quote and what happens next, in plain words: free site visit or not, written quotes, who sorts planning or building control sign-off. You do not need to publish prices, but saying how pricing works answers a question customers ask.
  • Memberships and schemes you really hold, such as TrustMark or the Federation of Master Builders: named on your website and matching the scheme's own public member search. Never claim one you do not hold.
  • Reviews that mention the type of job and the place, on Google and any review sites you use. One detailed review of an extension says more than five that just say "great job".

What a good answer looks like

Example only: fictional town and businesses

Who builds kitchen extensions in Puddlecombe?

Local builders that mention extensions include:

Brickbarrow Builders: single-storey and kitchen extensions, free site visits, TrustMark registered, covers Puddlecombe and nearby villages, photos of recent projects.

Mortarboard & Sons: general building and repairs.

The firm named first says exactly what it builds, where, and how it works, and backs it up with photos and reviews of real projects.

What we don't promise

We never guarantee a place in an AI answer. AI assistants decide for themselves, and nobody can promise what they will say. What we sell is careful checking, real fixes and honest measurement.

Four things you can do this week

  1. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity two or three of the questions above, with your own town. Ask each more than once, because answers change.
  2. Write down which builders get named instead of you, then look at their Google profile and website: which projects and areas do they spell out that you do not?
  3. Check your Google Business Profile lists each type of project you want more of, and every town you genuinely cover.
  4. Ask the customers from your last three finished projects for a review that says what you built and where.

Questions

Do AI assistants check whether I belong to TrustMark or the FMB?

We cannot say exactly how any assistant checks, and it changes. What we do see is that answers sometimes repeat memberships that are stated clearly and consistently. Only name schemes you really belong to, and make sure your details match their public member search.

Should I put prices on my website?

You do not have to. Every project is different, and customers know that. It does help to explain how you price: whether site visits are free, whether quotes are written and fixed, and roughly how long the process takes. Those are questions people ask AI too.

I get most work from word of mouth. Does this matter to me?

Possibly less than to a newer firm. But when a past customer recommends you, the next person often looks you up, and some now ask an AI assistant about you. It is worth knowing what it says.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my building firm?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. AI assistants decide for themselves. We check where you stand, fix what is likely holding you back and measure again.
