Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?

Short answer

No. You cannot buy a place inside ChatGPT’s answer, and anyone selling a guaranteed AI recommendation is promising something they cannot control. What you can pay for is help making the information AI assistants rely on complete, accurate and well reviewed, which gives you a better chance of being named.

What you can pay for

  • An audit of what AI assistants say about you now, and who they name instead.
  • Fixing your Google Business Profile, service pages, directory listings and review process.
  • Ongoing re-checks, so you can see whether things are moving.
  • Ordinary advertising, which is labelled as advertising and is not the same as being named in an answer.

Red flags

  • A "guaranteed" place in ChatGPT, Gemini or any other assistant.
  • Reviews for sale, review swaps, or "we will post reviews for you". These break UK consumer law.
  • Pages stuffed with towns you do not cover, or hundreds of near-identical AI-written pages.
  • No clear price, or no clear way to see what changed.

The honest limits

What about adverts inside AI assistants?

Where an AI service shows adverts, they are labelled as sponsored and sit apart from the answer itself. Paying for an advert is not the same as the assistant recommending you.

Is paying for help a waste of money, then?
